Day 11

  • From the Wine Region to Victoria Falls

This morning you will check out of Grande Provence and enjoy short transfer back to Cape Town Airport. From here you will board a flight to Livingstone's Harry Mwanga Nkumbulu International Airport.

Livingstone is home to what is arguably the most impressive natural wonder of the world, Victoria Falls! Known locally as ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ this spectacle is accessible from both Zambia and Zimbabwe and it is an ideal region to combine game viewing and water sports. There is excellent fishing, a terrifying bungee jump and arguably the best commercial white water rafting anywhere in the world.

At Livingstone Airport you will be met by your driver and transferred to Royal Chundu Zambezi River Lodge. Voted as the 4th Best Resort in Africa and 9th Best Resort in the World in the Condé Nast Traveler’s 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards, Royal Chundu sits on the banks of the Zambezi River which hugs the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. This hideaway of tranquility intertwines romance and adventure with a genuine focus on community in every touch.

Further downstream lies the iconic Victoria Falls, only 30km away. Zambia's first and only Relais & Châteaux property, Royal Chundu River Lodge boasts incredible views of the Zambezi River. Day 12

  • Exploring Victoria Falls

Today you have at leisure to spend as you please. Included at your stay at Royal Chundu is a guided tour of the mighty Victoria Falls including return transfers. This is an absolute must as you walk the many miles of pathways and vantage points that surround this incredible feature.

For the more adventurous there are a number of other activities available, most of which would incur an extra cost payable locally. Why not get a bird's eye view of the Victoria Falls and Zambezi River on a 15 minute or 30-minute microlight flight! This memorable experience will provide some of the most stunning views of the falls imaginable and will wow you long after your safely back on the ground. Another option that will allow you to see the Victoria Falls from the best possible angle – above, is via a short helicopter flight. United Air Charter offers 3 different flight options from their base at Baobab Ridge. The short flight circles the Falls and offers superb views over the gorges below. The longer flight skims over the Zambezi rapids, ascends over the Falls and finishes with game viewing over the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. The adventure flight in a Huey helicopter, flown with doors open at a lower lever, skims over the African bush, deep down into the Batoka gorge and over the falls.

Another exciting option would be either a half or full day Zambezi Rafting experience! Acclaimed as the best one-day white water run in the world, the river is also recognized as one of the top ten paddling rivers in the world. Your knowledgeable and experienced guides will ensure you have both an enjoyable and safe day on the river. The days adventure is captured on video and film and the trip even includes a riverside picnic lunch.

Another awesome way to see the Falls is from the bottom of the gorge. Swimming in the rock pools below the Falls, surrounded by the massive black basaltic rock towering up above you and the water cascading down, seemingly out of the sky, is certainly one of the most breathtaking experiences you will ever have. This activity is a perfect combination with white water rafting.

To end your day make sure you to join the complimentary sunset cruise that departs daily from the lodge. Here you can experience the beauty of the Zambezi River as dusk forms the backdrop of your guided cruise. This is a firm guest favorite at Royal Chundu, a chance to relax while your guide whisks you down one of Africa's grandest rivers, a river of myth and romance, in a spacious, pontoon boat. Watch crocodiles slip off the banks under water as you approach and listen to a chorus of snorting hippos all while enjoying a sundowner G&T in hand.
